dried cherries, white chocolate peanut butter & pecans

My Hubster loves cherries so i couldn’t resist throwing a few his way this morning… A bit tart and a bit sweet, blends well with the other flavors of this om of the day.


1 T dried cherries
1 T white chocolate peanut butter
1 T pecans
1-3 t agave (to taste)

Directions: Mix all ingredients together, or if you like you can garnish with a few extra cherries.

larabar – peanut butter chocolate chip

One of my favorite new discoveries is the peanut butter chocolate chip Larabar. I try to work one into my daily routine lately…just ‘cuz they are soooo yummy!

Ingredients:

1 C cooked old-fashioned oats
1 peanut butter chocolate chip Larabar
1-3 t agave (if desired)
sprinkle of salt

Directions: Chop or break apart Larabar, mix with other ingredients in oatmeal and enjoy!

key lime & coconut

This is a very satisfying om of the day. The richness of the coconut and the sweet light notes of the key lime combine to make a very balanced and delicious breakfast.

Ingredients:

1 C cooked old-fashioned oats
1/4 C unsweetened coconut shredded
2 T keylime simple syrup

Directions: Over low-medium heat add coconut and key lime simple syrup. Heat for a few minutes, until warm and toasty. Sprinkle a dash of salt, mix well. Garnish om of the day with the coconut-lime mix.

hearda hurda?

Hmmmm…We found this interesting ingredient at the local Indian/Pakistani grocer. Very interesting. I have no idea what it is traditionally used in, but in oatmeal it was pretty good.

Ingredients:

1 C cooked old-fashioned oats
2 T hurda syrup from jar
3 hurda seeds?

Directions: Drain syrup in bowl with oatmeal and mix well. Top with hurda.

mOMent: I’d never heard’a hurda…But it’s pretty tasty! Your challenge today is to find something you’ve never tasted, and taste it!

fried banana and macadamia

Fried bananas and honey macadamia nuts are possibly one of the most delicious treats that I have ever had. If you’re vegan, substitute brown rice syrup or agave for this recipe.

Ingredients:

1 C cooked old-fashioned oats
1 banana
1/4 C macadamia
3 T coconut oil
2 T honey

Directions: Slice banana in 1/4 inch pieces. Heat 3 T coconut oil in sauce pan over medium-high heat. Saute banana in coconut oil, turning banana when the bottoms turn brown and cooking evenly on both sides.

Using the remaining oil, add 1 T honey and saute the chopped macadamia nuts and saute until browned.

Mix on T honey with oatmeal and add banana and macadamia nuts as garnish, to taste.

beach cookie crumble

Yesterday I decided to try a new recipe from one of my favorite vegan chefs, Chloe Coscarellli.  She named these bars beach cookies, and they are fantastic.  Enjoy at your own risk!
Ingredients:
1 C cooked old-fashioned oats
1 T coconut milk
agave to taste (I used a tablespoon and it was a bit sweet)
1 beach cookie (recipe here)
Directions: Mix oatmeal with coconut milk and agave.  Garnish with chewy coconut bar! Mmmmm…

fresh bing

These lovely bing cherries came straight from a friends tree!
Ingredients:
1 C cooked old-fashioned oats
1/2 C split de-pitted bing cherries
1 T agave
Directions: Mix oatmeal and agave well, garnish with fresh cherries…enjoy!

mOMent: Mid September is upon us and I barely feel as if Summer has begun.  Are you ready for the fall?  Or, could you use a few more dog days of summer?

cinnamon date pistachio

Ingredients:

1 C cooked oatmeal
2-3 medium dates
1-3 t agave chia seed
1/4 C water
1/4 C roasted pistachios
cinnamon to sprinkle

Directions:

Chop dates and put in a small saucepan with water, agave and pistachios.  Warm over medium heat for 5-10 minutes or until most of the water has been absorbed.  Sprinkle with cinnamon, to taste, and mix with oatmeal! Yum!

molasses & dried cherry

Blackstrap molasses is a great source of iron and manganese…It’s a powerhouse sweetener and is tasty.

Ingredients:

1 C cooked oatmeal
1-3 t blackstrap molasses
1 T dried cherries

Directions:  Mix together and enjoy!

pair of pears

I purchased a local oregon pear while we were on our travels up north.  And I thought it would be fun to mingle prickly pear with pear to see how the flavors combined.  It’s delicious!

Ingredients:

1 C cooked oatmeal
1 pear
1 T prickly pear syrup
1T water

Directions:

Peel and chop pear.  Add prickly pear syrup and water to a saucepan, mix in pear.  Simmer on medium heat for 5-10 minutes or until the pear becomes soft and infused with the sauce.  Add to your oatmeal and enjoy!

I was looking for a little nourishment this morning when I created this om…

Ingredients:

1 C cooked oatmeal
1 T sunflower seed butter
1 T chia seed
1 T flaked or shredded coconut
1 T dried cherries

Directions:

Mix all ingredients together and enjoy!

mOMent: Looking back and looking forward can be great tools for navigating one’s life. But, how often do you take a moment and really allow yourself to be here and now, in the present?

pecan, dried cherry, dried pomegranate & (honey)

I say (honey) because many people who choose not to eat animal derived ingredients will not use honey.  So, for those people I encourage the use of brown rice syrup and/or agave as substitutes.  I love this combination of flavors, it’s a very wholesome taste.

Ingredients:
1 C cooked oatmeal
2 T dried Trader Joe’s pomegranate seeds
1 T pecans, chopped
1-2 T dried cherries
1-3 t honey, agave or brown rice syrup

Directions: Mix all ingredients together and enjoy!

mOMent: According to some people, humans can only hold on to 5-9 pieces of information at a time.  If that’s true, what will you choose to pay attention to today?  Will you harbor resentment, fear and anger or will you free up that space and allow for peace, joy and tranquility?

cinnamon hazelnut pomegranate

While we journeyed through Oregon, we stopped at this great little art fair in Jacksonville, OR.  We found this booth selling cinnamon spiced nuts. She made them without oil!  They were delicious and well deserving of being put in our om of the day.  Mmmmm…

Ingredients:

1 C cooked oatmeal
2 T yummy cinnamon hazelnuts
1 T Trader Joe’s pomegranate seeds, dried

Directions: Find a cup and spoon, mix it up and enjoy!
