sunflower seed butter & lavender simple syrup

Ingredients:

1 C cooked oatmeal
1 T lavender simple syrup
1 T sunflower seed butter
1 T sunflower seeds

Directions:

Mix all ingredients together and enjoy!

mOMent: Have you ever worked really long and hard at something on the computer and then close without saving? Recreating original work can be frustrating, imperfect and challenging. mOMent: Do you ever have pity parties?  You know, times in your life where you just mope, pout and mutter negativity?  How do you get yourself out of that mood and into a more resourceful state?  One way that works for me almost every time is to take a rest…shut my eyes and let my mind relax.  When I arise, things seem to have settled a bit and I can look at things with a new perspective.  What works for you?

sunflower chia raisin

This morning I chose to be on the safe side and go with a few ingredients that I already know and love.  On Saturdays I have the luxury of taking two fitness classes at my gym, back to back.  So, this morning I wanted to be fueled and ready for a great day.

Ingredients:

1 C cooked oatmeal
1 T sunflower seed butter
1 T agave
1 T chia seeds
1 T raisins

Directions:

Mix oatmeal and sunflower seed butter with agave and raisins.  Enjoy!

Ingredients:

1 C cooked oatmeal
1 T sunflower seed butter
1 T agave
1-2 T roasted salted pistachios

Directions:

Mix oatmeal and sunflower seed butter with agave and half of the pistachios.  Garnish with remaining pistachios.  Enjoy!

mOMent: Listen to your body today.  What is it telling you right now, at this moment?  Tune in to the different organs, muscles and bones… Does it need rest?  Or could it use a little invigoration?  Thirty seconds spent listening to your body can change your entire day.  I suggest you do it.

sunflower prickly pear

A little bit of crunch, a little bit of sun and a little bit of sweet.  Yum!

Ingredients:

1 C cooked oatmeal
1 T sunflower seed butter
2 t prickly pear syrup
1 T raw sunflower seeds

Directions:

Mix prickly pear syrup, sunflower seed butter and half of the sunflower seeds with oatmeal.  Garnish with remaining seeds and enjoy!

cold fruity yumminess!

Well this morning it’s still hot from yesterday’s heat and I thought some cold fruity yumminess was in order.  So, this om of the day uses ingredients ice-cold from my fridge.

Ingredients:

1 C cooked oatmeal
1 blackberry peach verjus
1 t earth balance
1 t creamer
1 T strawberry sauce

Directions:

Stir in earth balance and creamer with oatmeal.  Add strawberry sauce and verjus, mix well!

mOMent: Studies say that screens such as computer monitors and televisions, cell phones and ipads can cause our brains to fatigue.  It is healthy and beneficial to get outside and rest that sweet brain of yours.  Consider taking a walk today with that intention, rest, recharge and recuperate…your brain will thank you.

How do you feel about figs? Well, I happen to find them…intriguing. I never enjoyed them as a child and was never a fan of fig newtons. However, as I learned about the versatile nature of them as an adult I became open to exploring. And, I’m so happy that I did! Here is a wonderful figgy way to start the day…

Ingredients:

1 C cooked oatmeal
3-4 figs
1 T agave
1 t grapeseed oil
dash of salt to taste

Directions:

Peel 3 figs and mash with agave syrup and a little salt (if you like salt).  Add fig mixture to oatmeal and stir in grapeseed oil.  Slice the remaining fig into slices and garnish om of the day with them.

dos strawberries

This morning I was in a mega-hurry and tossed this om of the day together in a flash. It turned out pretty delicious! I’m calling it dos strawberries because there is strawberry sauce as well as dried strawberries…Dueling strawberries :)

Ingredients:

1 C cooked oatmeal
1 T favorite milk
1-2 T strawberry sauce & syrup
1-2 t earth balance
2 T dried natural strawberries

Directions:

Mix all ingredients, except strawberries, together. Garnish with strawberries and enjoy!

mOMent: Have you ever been in a hurry and done things completely backward? Have you ever done things backward on purpose? Today do a few things backward, like brushing your teeth. Studies suggest that it is good for the brain (and fun too)!

strawberry cherry coconut

Yums!

Ingredients:

1 C cooked oatmeal
1-2 T coconut cream
1 T strawberry sauce & syrup
1-2 T dried cherries
1-2 T shredded coconut
2 T dried natural strawberries

Directions:

Mix oatmeal, strawberry sauce and coconut cream together. Garnish with shredded coconut and cherries, enjoy!

This is a delicious, creamy way to start the day. Depending on how creamy, coconutty or strawberry you like it, you can adjust the ingredients.

We like to go above and beyond around here so this morning I opted for 2 T of everything, which made for a very saturated om of the day. Yum!

Ingredients:

1 C cooked oatmeal
1-2 T coconut cream
1-2 T strawberry sauce & syrup
1-2 T shredded coconut

dapple dandy pluot

Pluots really do come in all varieties.  This dapple dandy pluot has such a beautiful crimson fruit color and a semi-sweet flavor.

Ingredients:

1 C cooked oatmeal
1 T agave
splash of water
1 dandy pluot

Directions:

Slice pluot (and peel if you like), add to saucepan with agave and water.  Simmer over low-medium heat for 5 or more minutes depending on the consistency that you like.  Blend mixture with oatmeal and enjoy!

mOMent: Have you ever noticed that the feeling of calmness and tiredness are similar.  Next time you find yourself saying, “I’m tired…” take a second and really notice if you’re tired or just calm and relaxed.  If you’re calm and relaxed, enjoy the moment and give yourself some reassuring affirmations.  If you really are tired, give your mind and body a rest, they could use it I’m sure.

tomato apple raisin

Along our travels around the county this weekend, we found this tomato-apple-raisin spread that we thought might be interesting in om of the day.  I have to admit it’s a little weird, but if you like tomatoes then you’ll like this.  It’s sweet and salty and a little chunky!

Ingredients:

1 C cooked oatmeal
2 T tomato apple raisin spread

Directions:

Mix spread with oatmeal and enjoy!

mOMent: The phrase ‘take it with a grain of salt’ always interested me because it implies that one should maintain at least some level of skepticism.  Being skeptical can help you maintain a balance of your own truth and the ideas others would have you believe.

honey tangerine

Honey tangerines are sweet and juicy when ripe, mix a little honey or agave with them and you get a wonderful flavor combination.  This was another great find at Andy’s market in Sebastopol which I was happy to discover.

Ingredients:

1 C cooked oatmeal
1 T water
1 T honey or agave
1 honey tangerine
1 t grapeseed oil

Directions:

Peel tangerine and break into segments.  Add water and agave/honey to a saucepan with tangerine pieces and simmer for 5 or so minutes until the tangerine is infused with the sweetness and there is a nice amount of liquid in the pan to mix with the oatmeal.  Add grapeseed oil to oatmeal and the juice from the pan.  Garnish with the tangerine slices, enjoy!

black cherry pluot

I’d never heard of a black cherry pluot before yesterday when we were traveling around our county and stopped at a lovely local fruit stand/market called Andy’s in Sebastopol, CA.  We found so many goodies, including these sweet treats.

Ingredients:

1 C cooked oatmeal
2 T water
2 T sugar
1 black cherry pluot

Directions:

Slice pluot and add with sugar and water to a saucepan.  Simmer over medium heat for 5-10 minutes, depending on how syrupy you like your sauce.  Add the mixture to your oatmeal and enjoy!

root beer float

Who says you can’t have soda in the morning?  Certainly not me.  Find your favorite root beer and vanilla ice cream for this om of the day.  The measurements aren’t exact, because everyone has their special way to make a float perfect…so do it up!

Ingredients:

1 C cooked oatmeal
2 T (or to taste) root beer
1 scoop vanilla ice cream
Directions:

Mix vanilla ice cream and oatmeal, add root beer slowly because it will fizz.  Enjoy!
